Kathy, the mother of one of our Mississippi clients with Asperger Syndrome, recently answered a few questions about her son Ben’s experience with the Dore Program so far:

What led you to the Dore Program?

My son Ben has been attending Kamp Kaleidoscope for the past 3 years. This past summer Dr. Mark Yeager mentioned that he believed Ben would be a strong candidate to particpate in the Dore program. So, I was really excited for Ben to have the opportunity and to see what strides he could make by participating.

What were your expectations getting started

I really did not know what to expect. I just saw this as another opportunity to help Ben develop and become the best he can be. Just like any other parent, I want to help Ben have a happy and fulfilling life.

How have you found the exercises? And what are some strategies you use to remain compliant?

The exercises have definitely helped Ben with balance, attention span, handwriting and overall confidence in his abilities. I reward him with a sticker system and when we finish a week with each day having stickers, then he picks some favorite activity he would like to do. It might be going to a movie, eating at Popeyes, or going to the cookie store at the mall.

Which were the first changes you noticed?

The first changes were connected to Ben's handwriting and also his balance. Then came the ability to have much better eye contact.

Would you recommend Dore to another interested family?

I would most certainly recommend the program to families with children who find themselves living with Aspergers. Ben is experiencing such positive feedback at school, at church and in other social settings. I believe that Dore is a large part of that positive reinforcement for both Ben and for me.

Santa Claus Caught Red-Suited!

Alert: Santa Claus has been spotted at the Dore Jackson office today and has informed us that he will be back on Monday, December 19 from 4-6pm. As you might imagine, we are shocked to have seen him and excited to know he will be back again so soon before the big day.

What: Visit with Santa and Milk and Cookies

When: Monday, December 19, 4-6pm

Where: Dore Jackson office (1855 Lakeland Drive, Suite P221, Jackson)

Who: You and your friends and family

Be sure to bring your family and friends and anyone else you know who may want to come visit with Santa and enjoy milk and cookies and fellowship. The evening will be come and go, and we hope to have many of you here! Please invite friends who may not know about Dore, and we will invite Santa.

Dore Program and Christmas Fest

The Dore Jackson office recently participated in Christmas Fest at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science. Christmas Fest is an annual event put together by Parents and Kids Magazine to inspire children and families and foster that Christmas spirit and holiday cheer.

Dore Jackson provided Christmas-themed face painting and other volunteers helped children write letters to Santa, choirs sang carols, and children enjoyed cookies and cider around a forest of lit Christmas trees!

The Dore Program is an individualized intervention for kids 7 and older and adults of all ages designed to improve learning, attention, and social skills by enhancing the efficiency of the cerebellum, our brain's skill development center. Many Dore clients are able to reduce the need for their ADHD medications, learn to or improve their reading, and even improve their sports abilities. The personalized program lasts between 9 and 18 months and takes approximately 10 minutes, twice per day to complete.
